What does an Ocularist do?

An ocularist is a highly skilled healthcare professional who specializes in the creation and fitting of custom-made artificial eyes, also known as ocular prosthetics. Ocularists work with patients who have lost an eye due to injury, disease, or congenital defects, to help them regain their natural appearance and improve their quality of life.

Ocularists use a variety of techniques to create custom-fit artificial eyes that match the size, shape, and color of the patient's remaining eye. This process often involves taking detailed measurements of the patient's eye socket, as well as making a mold of the eye to ensure a precise fit. Ocularists also use specialized tools and materials, such as acrylic resin and paint, to carefully craft the artificial eye.
